Buying a bunch of flowers or a box of chocolates, making your mum breakfast in bed or taking her out for a special lunch are all lovely treats.
But a handmade gift will be truly treasured.
Here are 10 present ideas you can make yourself for your mum - or dad can help the children make for their mum.
MAKE TEA FOR TWO
What mum doesn't like a cuppa and a cake? Present her with a pretty cake stand filled with your best bakes.
You will need: Cakes: 125g butter, 125g caster sugar, 2 large eggs, 125g self-raising flour. Frosting: 125g soft butter, 250g icing sugar. Hundreds and thousands and glace cherries to decorate. Make it: Mix the butter, sugar, eggs and flour and beat together before pouring into muffin cases. Bake at 180C for about 10-15 minutes, then leave to cool. Beat butter and icing sugar together for the frosting, then pipe icing on top of each cake before decorating with hundreds and thousands and glace cherries.

Make it: Cut a sheet of paper a bit larger than the book, wrap it around the cover and secure with tape stuck to the inside cover.
CUTE KEY RING
Kids will love creating these easy felt holders to keep Mum's house and car keys safe.
You will need: 6cm x 9cm remnant of floral fabric, 1 felt square, 50p, felt decoration or decorative button, from 39p, contrasting embroidery thread, 79p, all Hobbycraft.
Make it: Cut out two heart or circle shapes, approximately 12cm x 12cm from the felt, fold the floral fabric to make a loop and pin in place at the top of the heart. Using the embroidery thread, sew a running stitch 1cm from the edges of the shape. Stop and lightly stuff with off cuts of felt the heart before you finish. Sew a button or felt decoration to the centre and add a metal key tag to finish.

Turn half a metre of fabric into a masterpiece she can wear in her home every day.
You will need: 50cm of striped fabric, £7.49, 1m rickrack (zigzag braiding), 89p, 30cm floral fabric, £4.99, matching threads, all Hobbycraft.
Make it: Hem the apron skirt on three sides and gather the edge of the fourth. Make a sash with the floral fabric and stitch along gathered edge. Stitch the rickrack trim on to the hem.

Run up a simple fabric bag to hold your mum's yoga mat or a knitting kit. You will need: 50cm floral fabric, £7.49, 2m woven ribbon, £1.29, matching threads, 79p a reel, all Hobbycraft.
Make it: Cut out a rectangle 50cm x 90cm and a circle with a 15cm circumference. Fold the large rectangle in half lengthways to make a long tube 25cm x 90cm. Taking a 2.5cm seam allowance, stitch along the length of the tube. Leave another 2.5cm seam allowance and stitch the circular piece of fabric to the tube to create a base.
To make a drawstring casing, turn over 7cm of the excess fabric at the top of the tube and sew two parallel lines of stitching 7cm from the folded edge. Use a safety pin to thread the coloured ribbon through the casing. Attach a handle to the centre of the bag along the seam by hand-stitching a length of ribb
